We're the ones coming from the east

Cobourg is well served already, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. There are established operators here and you will have no trouble finding a bin. The honest trade is distance. Cobourg sits at the far western edge of what we run, so booking a day or two ahead gets you a much better answer than calling at nine and hoping for an afternoon drop. Give us that notice and there's no practical difference. Don't, and someone closer will beat us to it.

What the work looks like here

• Old-town renovations. The streets around the downtown carry a lot of genuinely old housing. Plaster and lath, layered flooring, a roof that has been gone over twice already — all of it heavier and bulkier than people expect from a house that size.
• Newcomer renovations. Cobourg has taken in a lot of people trading a city house for a lakeside town. That first-year gut of a kitchen or a basement is steady work, and it usually starts with everything the previous owner left behind.
• Waterfront and seasonal properties. Places near the lake turn over, get winterised, get opened up again. Decking, dock lumber, patio furniture and storm damage bulk up faster than the volume suggests.
• North into the county. Once you're off the town grid and onto the concessions toward Baltimore and Grafton, "a bit of a clean-up" means outbuildings, fencing, brush and whatever has been behind the barn for a decade. Those want the 20.

The five sizes

In the older streets the 8 yard earns its place — narrow lots, short driveways, and a neighbour who would rather not be boxed in. A kitchen or basement gut is usually the 14. A whole-house clear-out or a property job north of town goes to the 18 or 20.

The 5 yard is rubble, dirt and fill only. Concrete, brick, patio stone and soil reach a weight limit long before they fill anything larger, so heavy material gets a bin of its own. Describe what's coming out and we'll size it honestly, including telling you when the smaller one will do.
